Why is Library Instruction Important?

  • Saves students time

Library instruction teaches students to locate reliable resources faster rather than skimming through the web to locate information.

  • Students are taught critical thinking skills

Library instruction provides students with the skills they need to evaluate resources and separate the good from the bad and the ugly.

  • Improves quality of research papers

Students learn that the web is not the only go to resource for information.  Students are taught that they have access to thousands of articles from scholarly journals, popular magazines, newspapers, and over 150,000 eBooks.  The quality of resources available through the databases helps students turn in better quality research papers and reduces the fear of having to do research.

Library Instruction
Instructors may arrange for the librarian to teach library research classes, including general group tours, individual instructional sessions, or subject specific library research classes. The subject specific classes are tailored to the needs of individual faculty and their courses. Classes are scheduled, if possible, at least a week in advance to allow for preparation and classroom availability. To schedule a class, contact the library at 325-481-8300 ext. 3310 or email knhidalgo@howardcollege.edu
